Curriculum
Heritage House School aims to be a high performing school where we learn, work and enjoy so that we make progress and achieve our targets.
We are a school where we are all:
learning together and achieving together.
The School delivers a 'Skills for Life Curriculum' which equips our pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding that they need for their adult lives. The curriculum was developed with parents, staff, Governors and the pupils themselves and consists of six areas. These are:
Effective Communication
Personal and Social Development
Practical Skills of Independence
Physical Fitness
Leisure, Sports and Creative Arts
Problem Solving
The Curriculum is delivered via whole school topics on a three year rolling program. Schemes of work for all the National Curriculum subjects and RE within the Skills for Life areas identify the teaching and learning accross the whole school in each Topic. The Topics are:
This is Your Life
Let's Get Creative
Sea, Land and Space
That's Entertainment
All Around the World
Out and About
Light Fantastic
Food, Glorious Food
Back to the Future
Each Topic commences with a Launch Day when the whole school comes together for a day of special activities. Throughout the Topic there are 'Theme Days' during which pupils have a range of new and exciting opportunities for learning. At the end of each topic all pupils are involved in a 'Celebration Week' during which the learning of the pupils is acknowledged and celebrated. These Topics ensure that the Skills for Life Curriculum at Heritage House School provides the breadth and balance that features in the National Curriculum delivered in mainstream schools.
