HERITAGE HOUSE SCHOOL

SCHOOL CLOSES ON FRIDAY, 1ST JUNE AT THE USUAL TIME FOR THE HALF-TERM HOLIDAY

Hydrotherapy

Our physiotherapists use our swimming pool to treat pupils with mobility difficulties.

The pool is maintained at a high temperature conducive to treatment, and has an interactive light and sound system to enhance the students' experience.

Hydrotherapy is any use of water for healing purposes. Hydrotherapy uses the buoyancy, warmth, and effects of the water's turbulence to increase or maintain range of movement, reduce pain and stress, spasm and discomfort and speed recovery after surgeries. Spontaneous movement in water is much more attainable compared to on land. It is especially beneficial for children as it offers an enjoyable and sensory experience.  The children sometimes use special buoyant supports to help them float, and a physiotherapist will attend a weekly class hydrotherapy session to give specific exercises to those children with movement impairments.  Physiotherapists also offer advice to class staff so that they feel more confident in handling the children in water. A hydrotherapy programme is devised for each child attending hydrotherapy sessions.
