Hydrotherapy Pool
Heritage House pupils enjoy the benefits of our hydrotherapy pool, which is specifically designed to meet their needs. As well as easy access and warm water, the pool has a built in sound and light system for extra sensory stimulation.
Hydrotherapy uses the buoyancy, warmth, and effects of the water's turbulence to increase or maintain range of movement, reduce pain and stress, spasm and discomfort, and to speed recovery after surgeries. Spontaneous movement in water is much more attainable than on land, and it is especially beneficial for children as it offers an enjoyable and sensory experience.
All students at the school have at least one session in the water every week, either in the pool or, for some older students, at nearby Chesham Lesiure Centre (which also provides experience in the community). Some sessions are swimming lessons - these are run by an experienced swimming teacher who is very familiar with the students' needs. Other sessions involve hydrotherapy, and these are run by a qualified physiotherapist. Most students enjoy using the pool a great deal, and derive great benefit from having regular access to it.
In addition to student use, the pool is available for use by the local community outside normal school hours. A variety of local groups take advantage of this.
