HERITAGE HOUSE SCHOOL

SCHOOL CLOSES ON FRIDAY, 1ST JUNE AT THE USUAL TIME FOR THE HALF-TERM HOLIDAY

ICT

Information and Communications Technology ("ICT") is a part of everyday modern life.  For students at our school ICT can be a crucial way of obtaining a degree of independence, and of accessing experiences that are useful or enjoyable.  ICT is highly motivating for many students, for this reason.

All students are taught ICT once a week, and experience ICT within other lessons and situations within the school.  Teaching is individualised, and objectives range from experiencing and enjoying a sensory programme with classmates, to accessing the Internet on a laptop.  Objectives would consist of increasing pupils' ability to access ICT (for instance by improving their ability to use a switch), and increasing the range of ICT that they can then access (for instance using a search engine or a communications program).

The school has a number of laptops that students regularly use, and most classrooms have plasma touch screens that provide a different sort of experience.
