music
Music is a crucial part of our curriculum, with lessons provided through an Advanced Skills Teacher, who is also a music therapist. We also have other music therapists who work in the school. We are a centre of excellence in music education for students with learning difficulties, and we have a specialist music room with a large range of musical instruments and equipment.
Our music teacher has worked in the field of special needs for over 25 years, both in special schools and for the NHS. All pupils can access a range of different musical experiences, for instance through soundbeams, resonance boards, instrumental tuition, Taiko drumming and choir.
We work closely with Soundabout, an organisation that provides on-going training and support to ensure we remain highly skilled and make effective use of the excellent music resources we have. Musical interaction and experiences frequently have a profound effect on our students, and they provide a means of group interaction as well as personal expression. Many students who have difficulty expressing themselves in other ways use music to do this.
