Physiotherapies
Physiotherapy aims to help children achieve their optimum physical development and promotes functional independence. This is done through play and fun.
Physiotherapy at Heritage House School provides individual assessment, advice and intervention to children with respiratory, musculo-skeletal, neurological and other problems. A treatment programme is devised to help the children achieve maximum independence in the context of all other medical care, including focus on the child’s postural ability through the school day. The child's needs are assessed continually. Treatment may involve mobilisation and stretching, neuro-developmental therapy, specific therapeutic exercises and posture education. The physiotherapists also offer teaching and support in order to empower carers and educational staff to manage the child’s physiotherapy needs on a daily basis.
Physiotherapists also involved in the provision of special equipment including orthotics; a bimonthly orthotics clinic is held at the school. They undertake home visits when indicated, and liaise closely with other health professionals including Paediatricians, Orthopaedic Surgeons and the school nurse ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach. Finally, a physiotherapist attends at child medical reviews where appropriate, and at school annual reviews where needed - otherwise, a written physiotherapy report is provided.
