School Nurse
A significant number of our pupils have medical needs which are overseen by the school nurse, who is employed via the local Primary Care Trust. Medicals, immunisations and vision and hearing tests are carried out in school, and parents are invited to be present. The school nurse maintains regular contact with parents who require it and advises on a number of issues including epilepsy, diabetes and dietary needs.
The school nurse also liaises with other medical professionals to seek the best advice for families. She provides and organises training for school staff and advises on policy and procedures in relation to all health care matters. A number of pupils have Individual Care Plans (ICPs) that are written by the school nurse and the family in conjunction with other professionals. The nurse will attend Annual Reviews as needed to advise or comment on particular issues.
